HELP! WHAT'S A PODCAST???
|
 |
FOUR easy ways to listen:
- Listen to the podcast right now. The fastest way to begin listening is to click "Listen Now". This will launch a Flash media player which will begin playing the most recent podcast. As most browsers are equipped with the Flash Player, this is the best bet. Or you may choose streaming media. Simply click on your choice of media: RealPlayer or Windows Media. The podcast will commence after a few seconds. There may be slight interruptions caused by your connection, but after a short pause should resume playing. This method requires either Real Player or Windows Media.
- Download to Your Computer. Downloading lets you save a copy of our podcast onto your computer. You can then listen to it whenever you want, or even transfer it onto your portable MP3 player. If you would like to download the podcast to your computer, simply right click on the MP3 link and then select "Save Target As..." or for our Mac friends, Ctrl-Click. Any software digital music player can play an MP3 audio file: iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp, QuickTime, etc.
If you click on the Download link using the left hand button on your mouse, the audio will usually play. How this happens will depend on the set up and settings of your computer. Usually your default media player will open and the audio will start playing automatically.
- Subscribe to the podcast. It's free! There are many "podcatchers" from which to choose. If, for instance, you use My Yahoo! as your homepage, try clicking the My Yahoo! button to automatically add us to your page. Or try another service! Simply click the podcatcher of your choice and follow the instructions provided. If you have not already done so, you will be asked to create a member account with the service you choose. Click here to get started!
*** RSC Recommend iTunes. If you can, we would prefer you download through iTunes (for both mac and PC). iTunes has a top 100 list that is based on subscriptions and we would love to be on that list. A subscription means that new episodes will be automatically downloaded to your iTunes software when they are posted. Then you may choose to listen from your computer or synchronize with your iPod to listen on the run. Click here to subscribe to iTunes.
- Click the Pickle Player embedded in every podcast. The podcast will commence playing in a matter of seconds!

Five Myths of Podcasting:
- I need an iPod to listen to Podcasting. Nonsense: Not to get into the history of this, but podcasts and iPod kinda came out at the same time and became synonymous. There’s been much debate to change the name to netcasting or something, but too many people know it as "podcasting" - so it stays. The best way to think of this is an internet radio show that you download or listen to right on your computer.
- Subscribing to a podcast means I have to sign up for something, and we all know that means SPAM! Craziness. Another bad choice of words that I think scares people. The word subscribe implies you must offer credit card details or be on a list. Not true. It just means you are guaranteed regular updates and receive the latest podcast - for free! Think of it as tuning into your favorite TV or radio show, but where ever and whenever you want!
- I can’t download iTunes because I don’t have a mac. That’s what the man would have you think! But not true. ITunes have become quite a handy little tool. We highly recommend iTunes. It’s free, it's very easy to install and is one of the most stable programs around. Visit the iTunes download page here.
- Podcasts are like radio shows, but they are not interactive. Not since the world was said to be flat have we heard such nonsense! We have several ways for listeners to either make comments, questions, or feedback:
Call Us On-Line! And leave a message! We'll listen to all your comments and select one or two to include in our next show! This requires you enter your email, but only for security, not for adding to a list!
Leave Text Message. Every podcast has a "Comments" link so you can tell us what you think! An email address is needed, but again only for security.
Join the Forum. Offer feedback or join others in discussions, word games and joyous goofiness!
Show Notes. If we ever mention a web site or a fascinating fact to investigate further, we'll include it in the Show Notes. Just click the link!
We highly recommend feedback! We're having fun putting these podcasts together and would love to know what you think. We aim to shape these podcasts for our fans - so your responses are needed!
- Podcasts will make me uglier. Absurd. Not only will listening to these podcasts make you smarter and brighten you soul, but through the endorphins that will fill your body, these podcast will also make you more attractive.
