RSC Analyzes NPR's "Character"
Jul 11 2008
The Reduced Shakespeare Company appeared on National Public Radio's "Weekend Edition", reducing NPR's "In Character" series.
For the last several months, NPR’s “In Character” series has examined the impact of fictional American characters on our lives. We naturally applaud the reductive notion of distilling our national experience into a single American character.
But we also know the dark underside of wanton reduction. With our unique access to NPR’s most familiar voices and distinguished journalists, we discovered that the “In Character” series opened a Pandora’s Box of competing characters and conflicting egos -- all within the hallowed hallways of NPR itself.
Listen to hear what unsupervised reduction has done to America's premiere broadcasters!
The piece will probably also air as a downloadable podcast, available either here or at iTunes.

Podcast Strikes Chord With Sound of Young America
Jun 03 2008
The Reduced Shakespeare Company Podcast got a lovely and unexpected review from Public Radio International's "The Sound of Young America" podcast and blog.
Colin Marshall devoted his entire "Podthoughts" column to a glowing review of all things RSC. He said:
"To do all those (RSC) shows, you'd have to be both well-cultured and quick of foot and brain. Fortunately for them and for us, the players of the RSC all pack foot, brain and culture with no room in their luggage to spare...."
"Unlike so many staid theater groups that look down their noses at the whole of technology culture, the RSC is on the vanguard as internet presences go...."
"It's quick and it's slick...Humanities scholars say that "reductive" is the worst slur with which you can be tagged. But with their podcast, as with their other ventures, the Reduced Shakespeare Company has proven once again the detachment of humanities scholars from reality. If reduction is wrong, I don't want to be right."

WARNING: UK "Complete Works" *NOT* The RSC
Mar 21 2008
The production of "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)" that's currently touring the UK has nothing to do with the Reduced Shakespeare Company.
It may be very good -- we hope it is; we haven't seen it -- but this is a new production unrelated to the hit production that ran in London for almost ten years.

New Office Manager!
Mar 21 2008
Alli Bostedt, a resident of Sonoma, California and our newest props and wardrobe person, has accepted the position of Office Manager for the Reduced Shakespeare Company.
Previous office manager Kristin Jeffress has, in the words of our show "Completely Hollywood (abridged)", accepted an offer she couldn't refuse. In her own words, Kristin expressed her bittersweet feelings this way:
"I believe my epitaph should read...she came, she learned, she conquered, she transitioned beautifully into Alli."
That she did!
We welcome Alli into the day-to-day madness of the RSC. She can be contacted directly at alli(at)reducedshakespeare.com.
